Wind and Rain

We were due to leave Bayona on Tuesday morning, 1st June, but due to forecasts of high winds this was first delayed for 24 hours and subsequently further delayed until Thursday 3rd June. In short order, Rally Portugal arranged a coach trip to the Roman/Celtic Hut Settlement at Monte de Santa Tecla and the fortified church at Tui and the walled town of Vallenca. This prompted another Alison poem:-

We saw more of Bayona
Than we shouldn't oughta
It blew and it rained
We saw waves and white water

We were almost port-rotted
'Till we were taken to see
The local attractions
Vallenca and Tui

Paul and Andrew ensured
That we were entertained
Wine tasting and churches
But yet it still rained

We thought we could leave
As Wednesday came
But despite all good forecasts
It was still wind and rain

Dances with Waves
Thought they would make a run,
Andiamo too
Thought Povoa looked fun

Sadly for them tho'
The wind proved too strong
Now the're back in Bayona
Where they really belong

A very tragic incident occurred whilst we were at Bayona Marina. A Belgian yachtsman was found drowned and floating against one of the Rally boats. Early indications from the police were that he had been drinking heavily and fell in unobserved. It was a potent lesson for all of the implicit dangers of the environment around water and also of inebriation.
