Halfway!

Halfway at last
and all downhill from here (2400 miles to
go). Current position 41 South, 67 East.
After the 4 gales and endless days of strong winds, the last 3 days have been
very relaxing. We have been having 15-20 knots from behind and fairly gentle
seas. And according to our weather contact Koopy we shouldn't expect anything
stronger than 30 knots over the next week, which will be nice. We are about a
day behind schedule so may end up a couple days later than our original estimate
of March 20.
One big
surprise has been the temperature..hasn't really been cold at all. Here we are
at 41 degrees South and wearing shorts. The nights are cool but nothing like we
were all expecting.
Ian has fully
recovered from his sore ribs and we are all well rested. Not having the
self-steering has not been such a bad thing as Bill and Ian, who have not done
much sailing, are getting the full experience (they are certainly becoming
competent helmsman).
Peter,
Bill, Craig and Ian just before leaving Cape Town
Not much on the
wildlife front. Plenty of sea-birds including albatross, but with regards to
sealife Bill saw a turtle and today we saw a seal. No whales or dolphins which
is a bit boring. We saw a tree in the water today marking the halfway
point!
More news in a
week!
