Time to Leave

Our time in Rio has been short (just 9 days) but extremely enjoyable. We managed to take in the obvious sights such as Sugarloaf, Corcovada (Christ the Redeemer), Copacabana and Santa Teresa. We ate and drank like kings and had a hell of a time. New Year was awesome on Copacabana Beach (with 2 million other party-goers - true!).

The trip to Cape Town is going to be a bit more challenging from a weather perspective than the one down to Rio, but we expect to make as good speed. It is an almost identical length of 3400 miles although we have to head slightly south of Cape Town for the approach. We leave tomorrow (Jan 3). All the boat maintenance has been done (a few little jobs) and we only have to do the final shopping for provisioning and top up with diesel before we go. We are down to three crew now as Mick flew home to England and will fly to Cape Town to meet us there. The watch system will be different - we'll let you know how it goes.
