A lot has been happening

Where is the langour now I ask? We've been going 10 days now and have covered 1400 miles..just 3400 to go. I hope that the next10 days has only a fraction of the activity of the last 10. Two days out of Cape Town and we were in a Gale. We were "pooped" heavily such that the cockpit filled - luckily the washboards were in and so below remained relatively unscathed. Ian was at the helm and flung into the wheel, whereupon he bruised his ribs..still sore 8 days later but getting better.

The self-steering has packed up and so we are helming all the way now..no big deal as there are 4 of us to share the workload, and Ian and Bill are quickly learning! And last night as I was putting the finishing touches onto a tuna casserole for dinner we noticed that the mainsail had a 15 foot rip in it. One and a half hours later we had the new mainsail on and could enjoy dinner.

Apart from that, the weather has been very tropical. By that I mean it has rained and rained. This morning we had a downpour similar in intensity to what we had in the doldrums..amazing! The weather has been quite warm as well which is odd. We are currently at 41 degrees South, 44 degrees East and enjoying some rare downwind and sunny conditions...hope they last. Something positive is that we have been enjoying a current of 1-2knots for the last 3 days which is helping progress a lot. We had a 198 mile day 2 days ago!
