The day dawned with light winds as the sun cracked the Eastern sky. At 0700
we decided that it was best to fire up the engine as we could not afford
another day of no wind. We ran on power for about 6.5 hours until the wind
filled back in. Around 1300 Shawn was making lunch when we had a "Fish On"!
John was the first one on deck and immediately grabbed the rod as line
quickly spooled off. We saw a beautiful Mahi-Mahi break the water a couple
of times before it dove to fight the hook. DJ backed the speed off the boat
while the rest of the crew reeled in the line, grabbed the gaff, put the
harness on and prepared to land our first fish. He was hooked up at 1330 and
we finally brought him on board at 1410. It was not a flawless fight though.
The reel came off the pole, we had a birds nest on the reel, and the pole
was almost dropped over board. Other than that we were like a bunch of
professionals! We finally brought him on deck and landed a decent sized
fish. The fish was alive and kicking so we had DJ pour some Skye Vodka down
its throat. This technique works well when you get the alcohol in the fishes
mouth but not so well when you are dumping on the side of the fish!

Mike is already planning tonight's meal of beans, yellow rice, and fresh
grilled Mahi.
