30 – 31 May

We had an excellent meal last night at Basheene the restaurant at the Ladera Resort at the top of the hill. The men were still dragging a bit as the “hike” up the Gross Piton was very taxing.

During the night the Easterly breeze filled in and it came rocketing down the mountain. Both Dean and I woke up around 3:00 am to see what was going on. We secured some cushions and furled the flag while making sure the mooring was secure. We woke to a nice morning with a brief rain shower that helped get some of the salt off the boat. We took the girls ashore so they could exercise while the men made the boat ready for a sail. We untied from the mooring around 11:00 am with the wind still blowing strong. Excited for a brisk sail we were disappointed as we quickly hit the doldrums as soon as we got away from the wind coming down the mountain. It took us a couple of miles until the wind filled back in as we eased Westward looking for clean air. Once we were away from the island the breeze was a brisk 15 – 20 knots. We sailed a nice crisp beat past Marigot Bay and tacked back to our mark. It was a beautiful 3 hours of sailing.

We pulled into Marigot Bay and immediately wished we left more time for our trip. This is a very picturesque spot with plenty to do ashore. We secured the boat, cleaned her up and hit the pool. The rum was flowing and we capped the day off with a great dinner at the Rain Forest Hideaway.

It was a fabulous week on the boat. It was great to spend time with our friends, Dean, Mary Beth, Dan, and Kathy. We hope to see them onboard again soon!
