Title: First day at sea 38:0N 70:52W

 

Afternoon departue from Newport with all four crew aboard. Helicopter at the start for pictures under a truly lovely sky. A little too breezy for a spinnaker start, especially for the first time using it. Tough first night with 25-30 knot winds but all well. Winds are dying a little now for a gulf stream crossing tonight at it's narrowest. We are told to expect some washing machine conditions, thence Bermuda direct with reasonable conditions. 21 boats in the rally, one diverted to Block Island for repairs and we are in the leading pack of Swans. A thorn amongst roses or vice versa...
