Well thats the adventure done for a while!
We crossed the finish line at 1 minute past 5 on Saturday16th December. Thats 1a.m. local time.
The reception, bearing the time in mind, was terrific. It could have been 1 in the afternoon.
We were greeted, first by a tumult of hoots and applause as we passed the bars in the entrance to the marina, where previous finishers were celebrating. Then by our ladies, on a launch coming to meet us, and on the marina pontoon by a welcome committee from the ARC, with rum punches, baskets of fruit, and big grins.
It was great to be in.
The approach to St. Lucia was every bit as daunting as we expected it to be. The North end of the island is unlit, pigeon island is unlit. Thakfully the finish line is marked at one end by a superyacht lit up like a christmas tree! Once we had negotiated the lumps, the finish line iself was easy.
We are here now.
We have been so pleased to know that a number of you have been following this diary, pleased to think we've given you some taste of what it's been like, and delighted that you have made us feel never far from home.
Happy Christmas all , see you in the new year.
