After the sunset over the Cape Verdes this morning the wind filled in to 12 knots and we prepared the spinnakers first flight, but just as we were about to set the fishing line started stripping from the reel at a huge rate and wouldn’t stop. After a 1000 feet of line had gone we looked out to see yet another big blue Marlin thrashing on the surface. With the boat stopped Nic spent 15 minutes slowly coaxing the fish back towards the boat but just as we could see the colours break the surface the hook came out and it escaped back below.

So now we set the massive spinnaker and were pleased to regularly tip 10 knots as Magrathea finally flew fast and in the right direction. Unfortunately this was short lived and now we are again under motor with near no wind, at least it won’t be rough for xmas dinner which should keep chef happy.

Another major change since we “turned right” was the noticeable increase in heat and lack of shade so we rigged the cockpit bimini which has now given us a fantastic outside dining area.

We seem to have caught a group of other yachts and we can hear their chatter over the radio aswell as the bored commercial ship crew singing christmas songs in very bad english.

Merry xmas everybody !!
