> We arrived at Puerto de Calero , Lanzarote at at 0130 hours on 12th November to the sound of the 1k decibel thumping techno beat and flashing lights from the quayside disco bar . Seeing the look on our faces the marinero was quick to pacifiy us saying that the music would stop at 0200 which ,thankfully ,it did . After a quick tidy up and celebratory beer we all retired to our beds for a well earned rest.
> As someone once said Sunday is a day of rest so a relaxing day in port was spent watching football in McSorleys Irish bar in an ocean motion daze helped along by a few pints of Guinness and compiled the job list for the next few days.
> Monday started off with the first of several trips to the laundry whilst Martin & Paul attacked the repairs needed to the generator and finally connecting the DC Charger to the new batteries . That gives us the ability to charge the lithium batteries from the engine without having to rely on the generator / solar .
> The generator remains a problem as we think a new water intake pump is needed so are currently trying to source one.
> We also have an issue with the Auto pilot ,yet to be diagnosed , but we think it was a little overwhelmed by the conditions experienced on the journey here.
> Mark & Dave removed the Genoa and carried out some dockside repairs to the sail and fitted some new deck fittings .
> Mark was accused of stealing our neighbours washing basket at the laundry so he no longer speaks to us and we were humbled by the generosity from another neighbour Fernando . When we enquired where we could buy some replacement gas bottles he immediately stopped what he was doing & drove us 5km to the next village then negotiated with the business owner to exchange our Greek bottle for a more standard one. All with no more than 20 words of English spoken .
> An evening meal at Finnegans followed . The captain made a note in his personal log that able seamen Sutcliffe refused to share his apple crumble with any of his fellow crew and will be suitably reprimanded once back at sea.
