As I write, the wind has backed slightly to the
east and has been fairly steady for some pretty good sailing. For now then, I'm
making good speed; about 6.5 knots and I'm sailing about 20 degrees higher than
I'd expected. That's after almost two days of frustratingly light winds when I
left Ascension. In fact, I'd barely got out of sight of the island when the
currents started taking me back there! It was only last night that the wind
really picked up and despite losing count of the number of tacks trying to make
the most of the shifts, I've only made 125Nm towards St Helena despite covering
215Nm over the water (St Helena is 700Nm in a straight line). That's after
nearly two and a half days of sailing! Anyway, with any luck, I'll be able to
hold this course and speed for a while longer. It's pretty lumpy and
uncomfortable but I'm getting used to that!
So that's all for now - nothing really to
report.
Cheers for now,
Bee
