DAY 13 MONDAY DEC 1

Position at 23.15 GMT: 17 deg 08.34 north 42 deg 11.53 west

Approx 1,765 miles travelled with about 1,000 to go

The light airs we had in the early hours went away at sunrise, thank goodness, and we’ve had a hot, sunny day with enough wind to push us along at 6 knots as we head further south.

Our target is the 15North latitude line, when the forecast predicts we will pick up moderate east winds and a strong west-flowing current which will work together to push us in a straight line to St Lucia.

Providing the wind keeps blowing, we should arrive in about 9 or 10 days’ time.

Mark did his washing on deck today in a bucket of salt water and his prayers were answered this evening when  we had a short, sharp shower and everything got a nice rinse in fresh rainwater. The rest of us used the rain to wash the salt out of our hair.

Tonight’s dinner was chili con carne with rice, washed down with an imaginary bottle of Cabernet Sauvignon (it was tea, really). Tomorrow as a treat we may open a tin of strawberries.
