Over 1,100 miles covered so far

Fish that can fly is a hard-to-believe concept until you see it with your own eyes. Using side fins as wings, the fish flap like birds and dip and dive above the waves.

In the past 24 hours three have landed on Relentless, one of them the size of a decent mackerel. They are very bony creatures but Nigel says he doesn’t care, he fancies one with chips. Flying tonight!

We’re making great progress with well over 1,100 miles under our belts and only a few days from the approximate halfway point. As we head south it’s getting warmer by the hour and a rain shower is actually very welcome now to help cool us down.

We had chicken and leek soup with freshly-made granary bread for lunch and a tasty Chinese pork casserole (Spanish style!) for dinner.

Tonight we’re trying a two hours on, two hours off watch system to break up the hours of darkness a bit.

It’s all a bit quiet out here – so far we’ve only seen one yacht, one fishing boat, one freighter, three seagulls and those flying fish.
