TUESDAY NOVEMBER 18
Beautiful start to the day at 7.30 with a double rainbow over the western
end of the harbour. As the day went on we had three heavy rain showers and by
9pm the barometer had dropped to 996 millibars (normally we’d expect to to be
around 1018 or so). We know we’re in for a blowy, wet, bumpy night as there is a
cold front coming our way, caused by the deep low off Ireland 1,500 miles north.
We’re delaying our start tomorrow until the front passes about midday so we can
benefit from the better weather behind it. We bought the last of our fruit and
veg today (two more trolley-loads) and spent a happy hour on the pontoon
spraying it all with vinegar solution to kill off any fruit flies. A week’s
supply of fruit is now hanging from nets inside the boat, and the next two weeks
worth is stowed in dark places so it won’t ripen too quickly (we hope). Tonight
we watched in amazement as the local fishermen brought in their catch – a
boatload of giant tuna, each of them weighing at least 30kg. |Makes our little
tins of tuna look a bit puny! Can’t wait to pick up all our frozen meat tomorrow
because then we’re off. |
