The Atlantic unexpectedly decided to take a day off today – so we did, too.

About 3am, just as we changed from Nigel’s watch to Chris’s watch, the wind disappeared and the sea became a sheet of glass. Within minutes of Nigel and Mark’s heads touching the pillow, Chris and Dave had an exciting 20 minutes on deck as almost 30 knots of wind blew through.

It came from nowhere and just as quickly as it came, it then went again. That was it...hardly any wind for the next 12 hours. So we drifted along at a very leisurely pace sunbathing, reading, listening to music and enjoying a lovely Sunday off.

It’s almost 6pm here (we’re two hours behind you and will put our clocks back another hour on Monday night) and Mark is now fishing. So it’s either beef hotpot tonight or fish and chips.

Dave has decided to pay extra to upgrade to Club Class, so he sits on his own a lot at the front of the mast as that’s where the posh people go (Nigel calls them the Ten Bob Snobs). Just to show he’s a class above the rest of us, Dave had a shower today. Mind you, it was from a bucket of cold seawater on the deck.

Today’s mileage is down on our average of 140 miles a day because of the wind conditions, but we are definitely past the halfway mark. Precise mileage will be available tomorrow.
