Goodbye Pacific

Sailing up through the Vanuatu islands was a great way to see some of the best bits of the Pacific. The people were all friendly and you never felt they were after anything. They were just happy people interested in talking to strangers.

On Espiritu Santo we managed a dive an a trip to the "millenium cave". The Cave was a hike through the jungle, up & down muddy slopes to get to the cave. The cave then ran underground for a couple of hundred meters. We had to wade through with torches, watching the bats & birds above us. This then left us in a canyon where we had to float down river to make the climb back out to the village where we started. A Great day.

The last day before departing for Aus we managed to fit in a dive on the Coulage. This wreck was voted on the top 10 dives in the world by the Times. It was huge! It was also in great condition. There was even live bullets & shells still laying on the shelves of the ship. One of the best dives of the trip.

We left on Sunday 10th at 17.00 and have been sailing all but 7 hours yesterday. We've been making 150nm per day average which is not bad.

Tomorrow we will sail into the Torres Straights at the top of Australia which will mean we leave the Pacific. It's been almost 10,000 miles. We have had a glimpse of the islands which is all I could have asked. It would take years to see all of it.

Looking forward to Darwin & the Indian Ocean.
