St Peter Port, Guernsey

We have spent a couple of days here in Guernsey and I have to say, we love it!  We rafted up on the sociable visitors pontoons and met lots of interesting people from all over the place, either heading out or heading home.  There was a festival going on around the marina, so there was a great atmosphere.

After tying up, we pumped up the dinghy and went ashore for a mooch round.  St Peter Port is a great mix of England and France, with lots of the usual shops but some nice architecture and lots of cafes and bars.  We found a beach for the kids to play on and for me to sleep on for a bit, and then headed back to the boat.  The adults treated themselves to a takeaway curry – fantastic.  It is great to pick up your takeaway in the dinghy rather than the car!!

After a good rest, we sailed down the Little Russel Channel and round the South of Jethou, and up to the island of Herm.  We anchored in turquoise waters off the beautiful Shell Beach, and headed ashore in the dinghy.  It is hard to believe that you are only a 16-hr sail from the Solent, when you are on a beach like this.

This is what it is all about! Ice creams, sand, and Nutmeg in distance

There wasn’t much point in going anywhere when it is as nice as this, so we swung quietly to our anchor all night and had another day at the beach, before returning to St Peter Port in the afternoon.

Back in St Peter Port, we prepared for our next crossing, over to mainland France, the following day.  This turned out to be a lovely sail of about 50 miles, with the wind on our beam and all sail set.  We arrived in Treguier, a lovely town a few miles up a river, in the late afternoon, and tied up.
