Position on the 30th August was out at Malolo Reef 17:46.145S 177:05.997E

During our stop back at Sawa I Lau, back on the 22nd August, we were lucky enough to be invited in by one of the skippered charter yachts “ Wunderlust” to the village in the afternoon to join in with a Sevu Sevu or Kava ceremony as well as some sing sing and dancing which was a heaps of fun and even got Mark up for a bit of a dance although weren’t able to catch it on film!!

On the 23rd we were back down to Nanuya Resort in the Blue Lagoon for a few more days of windy weather.  During this stop-over in the Blue Lagoon we headed up to the anchorage off Oarsman & Blue Lagoon Resorts which is all of 4NM from Nanuya.  They are located in a lovely bay with a beautiful white sandy beach with plenty of nice snorkelling to be had.  We even went in to Oarsman for the traditional Friday ‘Lovo’ feast which was preceded by sundowners on the balcony.  We also did the walk up to the summit which has some awesome views of the Blue Lagoon area.

Pick up from Blue Lagoon Resort

On the 28th August we started heading south towards Port Denarau as we are picking up Leapy Lynda on Monday the 5th September.

Our first stop on the 28th was at Manta Ray Bay and although we didn’t see the Manta’s on this visit we did enjoy the snorkel on the reefs in front of the resort and were pleasantly surprised as it was by far the best coral we have seen to date in Fiji and the fish life was also great.

On the 29th we headed back down to the anchorage off Liku Liku Resort in the Manamuca Islands via the eastern side of Waya Island.  It was a quiet day on board as we were motoring in calm conditions so Mark just had to pull out the harmonica for a bit of practice to pass a bit of time.

We had a very calm night in at Liku Liku and enjoyed a steak dinner aboard…

As the weather on the 30th is dead calm we figured it would be a good opportunity to go and explore the Malolo Barrier Reef so headed out of the VotuVotu Pass to a lovely sandy anchorage with breaking surf on the other side of the reef….  Lovely spot and as well as seeing Nemo, we even got to go snorkelling with a rather large leopard shark which certainly got our attention.

After lunch we headed down to Cloud 9 which is a rather novel concept of a floating platform on the outer reef where they serve beer and pizzas all day to predominantly a back packer crowd so we just had to go an check it out and enjoy a Fiji Bitter on the upper balcony with the rest of the crowd.  As we arrived in the later part of the day it was definitely a lively and rather sun burnt bunch as you can imagine.

Our current position is now back in at Port Denarau in a berth to do the necessary marina type jobs such as give the boat a wash and clean,  do the laundry, get some gas and water and do a bit of provisioning.  We are very impressed with the LPG from Blue Gas – it seems to last forever to the point that we are calling it ‘Magic Gas’ – we arranged a fill of our little 4.5kg bottle back at Vuda Point back on the 11th July and it is still going strong which means it has lasted now for 52days where we normally get around 30 to 35 days from a bottle – amazing!

On our bus adventure yesterday we managed to locate the NewWorld IGA Supermarket near the Nadi Airport that everyone has told us about but has alluded us so far. We were very excited as it is significantly better than what we have been shopping in to date and kind of vaguely resembles something close to what we get at home – well as good as it is going to get out here!!.

Her Leapiness arrives on Monday and if the weather looks good we will be out again for the next couple of weeks.
