SANTIAGO DE COMPOSTELLO  42.53N 008.33W  13^th October to 14^th October

 Well not quite a pilgrimage to the site of St James' relics. We left early and got the bus from Camarinas to SDC (for short) the journey takes two hours most of it hilly and lots of curves, we felt exhausted  after our two hour journey, only to find that the majority of English pilgrims/tourists had just walked the same route. Supposedly it’s a big deal to walk to this site, however it is all uphill and you have to be religious and fit, generally not a common meeting of interests, so I thought. Anyhow we arrived and while most of our fellow pilgrims were making a bee line for St James cathedral, the consensus in our group was to find a restaurant. Living on a boat has some advantages, one being that you are never more than 10 feet away from the fridge. This has its disadvantages namely that when dawn and I go looking for some ingredients for a meal, the larder has been rifled, I mean who eats raw noodles( no prizes for the correct answer). It really is a very picturesque town filled with beautiful churches and piazzas. Dawn and I have the best intentions, we really wanted the kids to marvel at the beauty of the place, but because of bad parenting they are interested in paella, imitation crossbows and does the hotel have a pool. Back to the beach…..

Dawn- SDC is a really beautiful city a very successful mixture of medieval and modern architecture in a dramatic setting – well worth a visit. The triple helical staircase in the museum of Galician history is fantastic and almost unbelievable structurally - three stone helical staicases rising up in the same footprint all starting from the same level. Seeing is believing.
