Spent 2 days in Ahe on own anchored off the main
village in the atoll. Really beautiful location looked at from the boat but not
quite so pretty ashore. Our walk around the village took about half an hour - no
cafe, only a store with limited provisions, Po and gendarmerie, not very tidy
and certainly not picturesque!
Spent a day repairing the mainsail clew which
parted on the way from Nuku Hiva and tried unsuccessfully to rerig the spinnaker
halyard (looks like a job for a rigger in NZ). Did a little snorkeling and
generally lazed around until this afternoon when we left for Rangiroa. When we
came to leave the anchor lodged itself nicely under a rock which took a
little while to clear with the help of friendly local guy who came over the help
and dived to free it. Came out through the pass without much sunshine so was
more difficult to see the channel than on the way in. It is 8-0nm to Rangiroa so
we are sailing slowly overnight to arrive at the pass around 9 tomorrow
morning.

receiving.
