With the new starter motor fitted, the engine
started first time, we did a final fresh fruit shopping and headed off the next
day to a fantastic little bay just around the headland from where we were
marooned. Entered under rain and poor visibility and anchored in a quiet bay
close to huge cliffs. Did a long walk the following day through local hamlet,
woods and gorge to waterfall and back to barter for fruit with a local family.
Grapefruit, coconuts, star fruit, pomegranates, mangos, manioc etc growing all
around and beautifully kept area with flowering shrubs and local ruins - great
walk took just over 5 hours and then back to the boat for lunch and off for
Ahe.
Now on night 2 and one more to go before we have to
sniff our way in between the coral heads.
