Well, we have arrived in Tanna, just
in time before darkness, so we managed to get into the bay at Port Resolution
and are now safley anchored looking forward to a good night's sleep and some
food (Tom is on the case as I type).
We made record time and arrived a
good 18 hours ahead of our ETA. The wind was on the beam the
whole way and in the last 48 hours we logged just over 300 nautical miles -
which is pretty awesome going for us!!!
Although this was a much shorter
passage than the New Zealand to Tonga leg, it was probably the biggest challenge
for me so far and it is a great feeling to know that we coped with just the two
of us on board - although it does make it rather anti social as any time you're
not on watch you are desperately trying to get some sleep - Tom and I have
barely spoken for days!
I did think I was losing it at one
stage though as the tiredness was beginning to cause me some weird
halluciantions and I was convinced we had a venomous seasnake in the
cockpit for a while - turns out just a bit of rope after all) but that, and
nearly being smacked in the face by a large flying fish who became an
accidental passenger in the middle of the night, made me a little bit
jumpy!
It feels pretty special to have
arrived here as Tanna holds a sort of mythical status in my mind. I have
heard so much about it from Tom and it does actaullly exist for real! Tomorrow
we have an early start as we are travelling across to the other side of the
Island to Lenakel, the main town, to clear customs. This
involes getting in a truck at 7.30 in the morning for a two hour ride,
negotiating the bumpy roads.
Looking forward to exploring
