We have left Tongatapu and set off to explore the Ha'apai islands, the central group in the Kingdom of Tonga. This is what it is supposed to be about - After a great sail last night we anchored this morning off a perfect white sand beach with beautiful turquoise water at the little island of Nomuka'iki.  We have been snorkelling over the incredible coral this afternoon and went on our first foraging expedition to gather coconuts, although our machete skills for opening them are still a bit inexpert.

It is good to be sailing again - we have been busy socialising with the other yacts that made the trip from NZ at 'Big Mamam's yacht club' over the last few days so now it feels great to set off for some adventures of our own, and leave the not so bright lights of Nuku'alofa behind. In between the pirate party, sorting out the boat and bits and pieces of admin we did still managed to have a bit of a look at Tongatapu.  We visited the polynesian equivalent of Stone Henge, an ancient triolith, and the blow holes on the west coast where the swell crashing onto the reef gets forced up through gaps in the rock and coral, sending spectacular plumes of water high into the ar in a sort of domino effect all the way down the coast - awesome! Out taxi driver for the morning was keen to make sure we sampled all the Tongan produce along the way so we kept pulling up by the side of the road at various small holdings so he could find papayas and bread fruit for us - we have more bread fruit than we know what to do with - on the menu last night bread fruit chips!
