Black-Out, but safely in Fakarava

We enjoyed a fantastic sail to the Tuamotos,
enjoying being back at sea after being on land for too long. Everything was
working flawlessly, the shift, the fishing (we caught 2 big Mahi Mahi (1 x 12 kg
& 1 x 15 kg) and a 10 kg Blue Fin Tuna, the food, the sleeping, the reading
... everything came together beautifully, but everything nearly came to a
dramatic end on a reef.
At 3 in the morning (Wednesday morning), we experienced a total black-out
and were unable to start the engines at the most critical time on the whole
passage. We were 700 meters away from the eastern reefs of the atoll Kauehi,
drifting straight towards them with no wind to propell us forward. I will go
into detail when I update my blog, but to sum it up, we managed to set sail
through a monumental team effort and managed to sail around Kauehi, barely
avoiding the reefs. It was a close call, but we persevered and are now all the
wiser for it.
Now we are safely anchored off the village Rotoava on the north eastern
corner on the atoll Fakarava. We have already been snorling in the pristine
waters here. Needless to say we have had the enchor dram and now the kitchen
team is preparing a stunning dinner: Indrefillet with fløtegartinterte
poteter (Google translate it to see what we will enjoy ;-) ... It will be an
organoleptisk experience.
With the sun setting outside and "Honey Bee" by Madrugada playing on the
stereo we are chilling and enjoying ourselves ... The atolls of Tuamotos here we
come!
