After being illegal immigrants in Fatu Hiva for 5
days, we finally set sail and raced with a group of other boats from the Bay of
Virgins to Atuana on Hiva Oa. When I say it was a race, it wasn't ... but it was
if you know what I mean ;-)
We started last and got there first, by the very
skin of our teeth. I attribute the win to our fabulous gennaker and
hand-steering the entire way.
Now we have checked in and are officially legal in
French Polynesia and have 3 months to enjoy the many islands and atolls. So far,
so good. Fatu Hiva was sensational and Hiva Oa is proving really nice so far.
Tomorrow we will sail to an anchorage north on Hiva Oa to have a beach BBQ with
some other boats ... All good fun. This truly is paradise.
