Sunday 3rd July 2011 - Isola Capraia
On Saturday morning we left the marina at Cala de Medici to embark on our 30 mile trip to Isola Capraia under a very cloudy and uncertain sky. After about 1 hour’s motor sailing we noticed thicker clouds and lightening a little south of us. We then decided to avoid the risks of being caught in a thunderstorm and returned to the marina for a second night. (We then learned that the previous weather forecast had been updated to include widespread thunderstorms along that coastline. On Sunday morning we set off again in a gentle wind and pleasant sunshine. We motor-sailed to make a reasonable time for the 30+ mile trip and we sighted the island about halfway across. However, when we arrived there were no berths available for us and we were directed to a line of specially laid moorings just outside the harbour. We spent a very comfortable night there.
