Welcome to Ron & Elizabeth HOWARD's sailing
blog and their adventures on "Eliza B of Portmadoc".
Eliza B is a Moody 36 bilge-keel sailing yacht
which was launched in 1998. It is just over 36 feet LOA (length
overall), with a beam of 12 feet and a draft of 4 feet.
It was purchased by Ron & Elizabeth in late
2008 who then sailed it from Pwllheli, North Wales, round Land's End to its home
marina at Southsea during the summer of 2009.
Photo 1 shows Eliza B in Ilfracombe harbour, photos
2 and 3 show our first sail when leaving Pwllheli.
![]() ![]() ![]() Our provisional plans for 2010 are to cross the
Channel to Le Havre at the end of April, spend some time on the Seine in Paris
during late May and then spend the summer exploring the inland waterways of
France ( as well as bread shops, cheese shops and vineyards) until we reach Port
Napoleon at the mouth of the Rhone river by the end of this
summer.
The purpose of this 'blog' is to enable us to
post progress reports - every week or so (Wi-fi permitting) - to let our
family and friends know what we are doing and where we can be
found. We hope to be able to check our emails on a fairly regular
basis. Please let us know if you are likely to be passing and fancy a cup
of coffee or glass of wine.
The following photo is added as a warning about the
effect of too much freedom and fresh air.
