Day of the Whale
Fantastic day yesterday - a 30 foot Minke whale arrived
after lunch to play with us. First Will saw something in the water ahead, then I
saw something strange astern, and then he surfaced about 100 yards astern, swam
up to the boat, and went past about 6 feet to starboard. Huge excitement on
board + a significant amount of nervousness. Then he decided to play dolphins,
swimming up by the bows, going off a little way to blow, and then swimming right
under the boat numerous times. Many photos taken - will try to include when
sorted.
After that pretty quiet really. Will went up the mast to
sort out a twisted jib halyard which was caught around the donut, probably
because we had taken the genoa down to repair Maltese sewing on the foot, and
then used the upper half as a spinnaker staysail.
Lots of cloud cover at dusk, so opted for a quiet night
with main and poled out genoa. Wind right aft as it's supposed to
be.
Now 06:00 - time to decide on kite up or
not.
