Seas flatten...the captain is back....catch up entry...new position!
24:15.235N 66:59.501W Sea sickness is not fun, but not uncommon...this captain usually gets it for the first 24 hours...this time, no exception. Trivia: Lord Admiral Nelson was 100% sea sick, all the time! So I am in good company...at least that's what I tell myself! Catching up from the beginning: We prepared for the passage during Tuesday and Wednesday (see photo #1 and 2 below), mainly with crew orientation to the boat, and provisioning. Rich agreed to be "Galley Chief", so he can tell everyone else what to do. Everyone was busy these days with their individual crew assignments dealing with medical gear, safety gear, emergency tools, preparation of spinnaker for flight, stowage of gear, provisioning, and a crew safety briefing for all. Finishing Wednesday afternoon, we took a taxi to Soper's Hole cleared out of the BVI's so that we could make a straight departure on Thursday. Then off to dinner at BananaKeet above Carrot Bay, right next to Cane Garden Bay, high up, up the northeast side of Tortola. Ceremonial "crew dinner" and view of sunset (see photo #3, 4, 5, and 6 below)....Dark and Stormy's were the drink of the day. Thursday morning we left for Saint John, checked into Customs (we are now officially in the U.S.), had lunch at Woody's, then departed at 1500! the captain was feeling pretty good initially (photo 7 below). Then, into Day 2, and the seas settle, as Ralph prepares the "3rd fishing setup and lure", having lost the first two to "really big fish"...we actually saw teeth marks on the line where it was cut! But wait....he prepares again (photo 8)....the reel is spinning (photo 9)...he must have a really big one (photo 10 below)...but no..."NO FISH BOY" comes up with a small hunk of seaweed (photo 11 below)! We were so ready for a fish dinner...but "NO FISH BOY" will not give up....he is at it again! All for now, Captain Mike. |
