Day 3/4 Sunset and Sunrise
27:45.954N 25.34.691W While last night, before sunset, we hit 36 knots of wind, with a speed of over 11 knots, and very rolling seas, during the night we steadied to 22-25 knots of wind, and seas more 5-6 feet…a decent night’s sleep…but rain squalls for the night watch! It has also continued to be a bit cool, with full foul weather gear, harness, and tether last night for the squalls and rolling! However, even with the rolling we called “Movie Night”….and showed the first episode of Gilligan’s Island (black and white, 1963), followed by the original James Bond flick, “Dr. No” (1962, color, and still fun to watch)….the watch captain looks down from the cockpit while keeping a good lookout topside! Before we left dock, the crew loaded about 50 movies into the ship’s “Kaleidoscope”, which is our movie library and movie machine. With the rough weather, all meals have been “meals in a bowl”…the photos show Paul (with hat) and Eric, and then Scott. Vicki’s favourite thing when we sail is sunset and sunrise. As she puts it, “every morning and night we are given the gift of a unique portrait, never to be repeated…an original to remind us of the many gifts our creator has given us” …. The sunset shows the boom with the name, and sunrise this morning shows the helm in the lower left…of course these pictures do not do justice to the real beauty….I think of these “views” are our reward to make up for sleep deprivation, seasickness, and multiple bruises as we bounce around! We have now gone, 615 miles in 72 hours…if you look at the ARC Fleet Tracker you will see we are all alone to the north of the fleet….but we have a strategy….we will jibe shortly, and go on a port tack, broad reach, and point straight to St. Lucia, expecting to benefit from the favourable upcoming wind shift…time will tell! |
