but the wind, current, and impending tides were against us. With an almost
constant 1.5 knots of current against us, and with the wind at 20 kts on the
nose, our progress was slow...and the crew was wearing out (2 hrs on and 2
hrs off all night made us a bit weary). So we diverted to Brighton on the
southern coast, between Dover and Plymouth. What a charming seaside town!
We docked by 11am in Brighton Marina (the largest and most beautiful in
England!), rested, then enjoyed a mid-afternoon meal at a great restaurant
in "The Lanes", strolled the Brighton Pier, road the bus...with nice
conversations with locals along the way! Tomorrow we leave at 3am to be
ahead of the low tide at 6am, since we would "hit" (the tide variation is
20 feet!). We will go to Alderney tomorrow, with 20 knot winds, going to
25, on the beam, expecting to arrive before dinner on rising tides. Sunny
day today...our spirits are up! Mike
