Anchored off Las Morras Marina in 0.6 depth of water under our keel, they tried to get us in closer to the marina saying there was plenty of water, but there was not.
Went to check in with the Garda who refused to give us a despacho to leave at 6 am the following morning……….. We had to go to see him the following morning to get one to leave that day but he was not arriving in his office until 8 am………. We tried to explain to him that we needed to leave early the next morning as we needed to get to our next destination in daylight as we had to find our way through a reef. He would not budge, I’m afraid I got cross and said he was ‘Stupid’ bad mistake….. We said we would leave today instead, this meant we didn’t need to fill out the endless forms they produce if we want to stay for a few days. We met some Canadians all in their 70s I think who were sailing on very, very small boats had a beer or two with them and they said they were getting the bus that evening to go for dinner at a hotel near by a buffet meal… We decided to join them at 6 pm we met up with them and were going to board the bus when the little fat Garda came out and yelled at us in Spanish that we were not allowed to go on the bus and had to go back to our boat, arguments with translators did not work. We went back to the boat and ate the very large lobster tails we bought off the fishermen in the marina, they only keep the tails and throw everything else back, but wow they were good meaty tails, so I guess we had a better dinner. We left on the yacht at 6 am the following morning. The Garda did not have a boat so could not come and bother us. Cuba is crying out for investment and tourists but they really need to improve how they are treated and improve the food.
