Sorry for my mistake with the last post, but it wasn’t Thursday last night at all! Got a bit disorientated, and lost a day…..now it is Thursday morning, and Bermuda is in sight. It took a while, since it is a low lying string of coral islands, but they hove into view as Ali came on watch at 0600. About 15 miles to run, and we are counting them down. We celebrated with a real coffee and biscotti. and this might keep us awake till we clear in. It is amazing how much we appreciate hot drinks now, after 3 months of largely avoiding them because we were already too warm.

It was thermals, trousers, socks, jackets, hats and gloves last night when the temperature sunk to about 12 degrees with the wind chill making it worse. When Ali came off watch at 0200, the first thing she did was look out her hot water bottle, to take into her bunk as she was shivering. The duvets have been rediscovered, though Ali said she had to look away when I was putting on the cover for her, otherwise she was going to burst – it was dark, I was trying to do it quietly, and I had a bit of trouble with my corners so had to retrieve them by diving in head first and wrestling around. With the boat sailing on port tack, and bucking around a bit, this was obviously a not a spectator sport for the faint hearted!

The sun is out (what a fantastic sunrise it was), the days are getting longer and the nights shorter, the wind is favourable, land is in sight, and we can have a sit down dinner with a glass of wine tonight for the first time for a week……luxury!

Till later,
