Porto beautiful Porto!

What an amazing place to wonder and explore! We could have spent much longer here in this medieval riverside district of Porto with its impressive bridges, port houses, narrow cobbled lanes and local cafes and taverna’s!

The Frigate Shtandart joined us in Douro Marina for a night and it was so like Jack Sparrow’s pirate ship from ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’!!

Our first day disappeared as we walked about 8 miles exploring and getting to know Porto including a visit to one of the well known port cellars Churchill’s. We lunched on cold meats, cheeses and calamari while overlooking the incredible Rabelo boats, one of the many things Portugal is famous for.

We couldn’t resist filling up on Portuguese tarts - Nata’s and a coffee before heading back to find a local seafood taverna near the marina which had been recommended. It was fabulous sitting outside enjoying roasted sardines, squid and prawns!

The following day the bikes came out and we ventured along the Portuguese coastal cycle route #1 covering about 25 or so miles and a good opportunity to stretch our legs and see a little of the coast from land.

A key part of our sailing life is having our road bikes along with us. A great way to keep some form of fitness and allows us to explore and see so much more of the many wonderful places we visit along our sailing journey.

The morning we left for Cascais, we were up and ran (longest ever jiggedy-jog for Andrew post knee opp) 8 miles along the fabulous wooden path that leads all the way along the Douro River.

It was then time to get ready, say our goodbyes to Porto and move on to Cascais.
