Being ‘on the hook’ can be so much more relaxing and being at one with the sea than marina life!

Having left Marina Rubicon the morning of Saturday 9th October, we motored to just outside the harbour wall to spend a few nights at Papagayo.

Papagayo is very popular with both locals and tourists as it boasts 6 golden sandy beaches widely known as the best on Lanza!

Playa del Papagayo is well known and most picturesque of all as it is sheltered from winds, has crystal clear blue/green sea and a very good cafe perched above on the cliff face.

On our arrival, we braved ‘beaching’ the tender on the beach (possibly a mistake!).

We explored the beaches and enjoy a packed lunch on the rocks above the beach of Playa de Papagayo.

The six beaches are all very different despite them all be very picturesque! Some are very sheltered and require a trek to reach while others are very busy with only a short walk from the car park.
Having walked round the headland, we were enticed into the water by the heat and sheer beauty of the place.

Arriving back at the tender, we hauled it back down the beach and waited for the right moment to launch it back into the sea between the breaking waves. Sadly, our timing wasn’t up to much and we ended up being swamped by a rather large wave!!!
Once back on Walkabout we jumped straight back in to the sea to cool off!!

Our first night was a little rock’n’rolly so we tried fixing a ‘flopper-stopper’ to the boom which we pulled out to one side and attached our makeshift design including:
- one strong bucket
- small length of chain
- small drogue

In the morning we discovered that we had lost our one strong bucket, and the flopper-stopper didn’t really seem to add any benefit to our nights rest, we hauled it up and it’s back to the drawing board…

We made a few trips to the local Super Dino supermarket for milk, bread, fruit and iced tea before moving on to our next anchorage and one we have been waiting to explore!

Playa Quemada, here we come!!!
