Gentle rise to a magnificent day - almost like summer - and to use the splendid 5* facilities of Darthaven Marina, then across on the unique push-pull ferry to the Dartmouth side for breakfast at the equally unique Alf Resco: Benj of course had to have the Big Alf - all the usual full English plus Devon Hog Pudding (like a white pudding) - washed down with orange juice freshly squeezed before your eyes.  With full bellies we had no need for lunch thereafter. We then separated to our respective tours of the shops/sights of Dartmouth.  We separately explored St Saviour's Church, a 14th Century gem, with magnificent carved and painted stone pulpit and incredible carved wooden reredos screen, with hidden 'green men'. The oak door with iron bindings has been carbon dated to show it was probably part of the original church, dating to the 1200s. Met up again for a beer at the Crab and Bucket on the quayside, and Benj returned on the ferry to rest his back, which had unfortunatelky been playing up enough since yesterday that he actually considered finding an osteopath, in view of all the physical activities to come.  A couple of hours' rest produced some improvement, and we later made the crossing again for our pre-booked evening meal at the famous Cherub: this ancient pub had been lucky to escape a serious fire 2 years ago which severely damaged many of the town's old buildings.  First-class meal - scallops, seabass, lamb's liver, pudding! Retired after our first 'rest day', ready for Plymouth on the morning
