Today, at very close to our start time last Sunday, exactly seven days ago, we passed the half way point between Las Palmas and St Lucia. This means we have now have only 1350 nautical miles to go to the finish.

There is the beginning of an air of excitement on board, as we now feel we are on the final straight, which means all being well we can expect to be tied up in port on either next Sunday or Monday, dependent on fair winds.

We took the decision before the start to keep to using GMT, the same as UK winter time. As a result, while the sun set for us at 6.15pm when we set off, we are now watching 8.15pm sunsets. A photo of tonight's is attached.

Although much of our fresh fruit and veg are running out we are certainly not short of food. There is still plenty of onions, frozen meat as well as dry goods.

Today we flew the spinnaker all day with consequent effect on our speed. Tonight we are back to goose-winged genoa which is more  stable and comfortable at night.

While we try our best to get speed out of Titania, ordinary life continues as usual. So we are all squeaky clean after daily hot showers and in clothes out of the washing machine.

So while it has been a fairly routine day on board, the excitement is making us all the keener on what is for all of us our first trans-Atlantic crossing under sail.
