It’s 5:45 according to  my watch, Bermuda time.  We are sailing with the main and mizzen at a whopping 2-3 knots, drinking fresh hot coffee watching the sun rise over the island of Faial!  Just a few miles away!   The Volcanic Island Pico is to the right.  We’ll turn the engine on soon, but no rush. The customs dock doesn’t open until 8:00,  although we don’t know  what time it is here, we do know we have some time to enjoy this moment!  We crossed the Atlantic!!!!!!!!    Sure, there are still some miles to go to mainland Europe, but this counts as a crossing not only in my book, but just ask any sailor who has arrived in the Azores!

We’ll be looking for crew in the Azores to go to Lisbon and /or points south  (anyone? the food’s really good)   We do have a friend who is looking into flights to the Azores as we speak. I think we’ll be in good shape, but 4 is better than 3 !  In any event,  we hope to spend a little time here.

Well! Pico is now under cloud cover! Good thing we saw it and snapped photos like tourists while we could!!!  The sun rises quite fast when you’re watching! 

I’ll be running later today! And we’ll have beers later at the Sports Café, the famous spot where  sailors go.
