Day 5

We had another very quiet night last night. We could see another yacht's
lights about 12 miles or so to the south west of us on our starboard side
which we have since found out was Magrathea, an Oyster 56. They seem to be
doing very well in the race or perhaps it is just that we are very slow!!
Early days though!

We have now travelled almost 600 miles south, which is much further south
than we had expected to have to travel, however we need to if we are to keep
hold of the winds. First thing this morning we decided to gybe the boat and
start heading in a slightly more westerly direction in the hope that we
would shortly be able to pick up the Trade Winds that will carry us the rest
of the way to St Lucia. That's the theory at least! We are now only 100
miles away from Cape Verde. The clouds are beginning to become more 'fluffy'
in nature which is seemingly a good sign since it means that we are at least
heading in the right direction! Pheww!

Early this afternoon we caught our first fish! Hooray!!! Actually, we caught
two fish but one of them (the larger one of course!) got away!! After an
hour of Angus struggling to keep the boat speed down while Tom fought to
land the fish we eventually got it on board. We think it was a King Mackerel
weighing around 50lb's! Incredible! The next two hours were spend gutting
and preparing it for the fridge and then clearing up the mess afterwards!
Guess what we're having for tea tonight?? Yum, yum!

Three photos attached today; one of Cameron and Scott holding the fish, one
of Tom gutting the fish while Fi bags it with Cameron, Angus and Alex
looking on, and one of Cameron helping out in the galley yesterday!! Look
mum - he can wash dishes!

More tomorrow.
