From Annie's Log...
Firstly I have to say sorry for my Picture Blog
"Stingray" faux pas. I feel terrible now that Steve Irwin has been killed by a
ray - who would've known? In all of my snorkelling over and around stingrays in
the BVI's I have never felt intimidated or threatened by them (more fascinated).
And even in Moorea - although Darren was being lterally 'mauled' by multiple
rays it was all very harmless, if disconcerting.
Anyway - we have just finished a 6 day passage from
Bora Bora to this tiny little speck in the middle of the ocean. Suworrow is one
of the Cook Islands - so we are getting close to the International Date Line and
are also nearly 700 miles closer to home. The passae was okay, but I have dubbed
it the UnPacific Ocean - the 10-12 foot sweels from various directions
simultaneously made for anything but 'peace'. We managed to meet up with a
Tropical Convergance Zone which brought squalls (mostly at night time) and
overcast weather for at least half the trip. The last 2 days were poled-out
downwind sailing at 7 knots but the lurching took all the joy out of it. I must
admit there were a couple of moments along the way which made me catch my breath
and think "Am I really here doing this?" (Of course many other moments made me
add a "Why" to the beginning of that thought).
We will probably spend a few days here - to catch
our breath and, from all accounts, go out and catchas few fish with the island's
caretaker. And do some washing, drying, sleeping, relaxing, maybe even swimming
and snorkelling etc.
Well, I have heard that the picture blogs went
online at last - once again apologies for the ill-timed naming of the
Moorea Picture Blog - oops - Who Knew?!? Hope you enjoyed them all the
same.
