The lost Vieques Update

Not sure what happened to this one first time around but here is our Vieques update from 20 Feb.

Well we finally left White Bay, on Saturday 18 Feb 2006 - amid tears and a cloud of white smoke. We hope it won't be too many years before we get to see all our friends there again.
Our first leg ended in Christmas Cove, St Thomas - a whopping 9 miles - we decided to stop and investigate the white smoke, plus the alternator belt shredded itself. An auspicious start to our epic journey. Luckily Captain Darren is an A-One troubleshooter and a few hours and several tools and greasy paper towels later he had us going again. By now it's Monday - after a test run to check for smoke we decided to keep going and make Vieques our next stop. Slightly longer passage this time - 38 miles, we are working ourselves up for the next one which is 930 miles nonstop.
You will notice there are no pictures yet, we are still working that one out. Vieques however is quite nice, a bit like Anguilla very flat and quite desolate. There are some beautiful white beaches, and lovely mangrove-lined anchorages. Hardly any other boats so it's very tranquil especially compared to the BVI (the Pitt St of sailing - ie: very busy). We are spending a couple of days here doing some fine tuning and some minor adjustments before we set off - it's beginning to feel a lot like cruising!
