We set a new 24 hour record yesterday of 175 miles and we passed 1000 miles sailed at 8AM this morning. Oly decided we needed to mark the occasion with a tot of rum, which we all did before breakfast which was interesting..
We have now changed course to about 240 degrees to dive down a bit further south. The main reason for this is that there is a low pressure system developing on our current latitude to the west of us, so if we carried on on the old course we would eventually run out of wind and even possibly have wind from the north or west. So we are diving down south to hopefully to skirt round it and keep the wind behind us all the way.
The added benefit of this is also that it will get warmer and the trade winds will be more in the 10-15 knot range instead of the 20-35 knots that we have had for the last couple of days.
We are now reaching along on port, and the motion of the boat has completely changed from the rolling both ways we had before. There is still a lot of movement on board but it is less violent. Every now and then a wave slaps the side of the boat and covers us in spray, this means we can’t have any hatches open and it is getting a bit stuffy down below, especially when I have to run the generator to charge the batteries.
Mum is cooking today, morale is still high on board and the fishing lines are out again, so all good!
