The pace of this Atlantic crossing has certainly not slackened off at all, as we have just logged another 170 miles in 24 hours. If this continues, by 11 AM tomorrow we will have covered 1000 miles in exactly 6 days, an average speed of just under 7 knots.
The downside to all this speed is that the motion of the boat is brutal, she is constantly lurching and diving all over the place. We are getting more used to it every day but it still makes normal tasks 10 times more difficult.
The hardest thing is cooking. You cannot put anything down without it being fully wedged in, otherwise within 2 seconds it has flown across the galley and onto the floor. Just the simple matter of making a round of teas turns into a tough logistical challenge. Being on cook duty is definitely the hardest job, but we are all taking turns so it’s the same for everyone.
The good news is that the temperature is on the up and the sun is out. Everyone is happy and enjoying the ride, no one is seasick. We think we are roughly a third of the way across, which is a nice feeling. Halfway won’t be too long.
We are slowly clawing our way back up the fleet, after spending too long going south on the first day.
The Tuna has now all been eaten and we had 3 lovely meals from it, we’ll probably put a line out again tomorrow.
Keep tracking us on the Yellow Brick tracker, I think the link is http://yb.tl/arc2012-noflash
We are in class cruising F, Boat No 154 Open Blue
