We motored all the 29 miles to Capo San Vito in no wind and anchored outside the harbour wall and underneath the lighthouse.
The beach was huge and beautiful, but absolutely chock a block with people, we had never seen a beach so busy. The kids thought it was great but Fred and I were a bit shocked by how touristy it was.
While at anchor, an Italian family on the boat next to us dropped two big saucepans over the side while trying to wash them up over the transom. The mother was obviously quite upset at losing her two best pasta pans so I offered to dive down and get them. When I got there it was deeper than I expected, but I couldn’t back out now, so made my best efforts to  retrieve them. It was probably 10-11 meters deep and very cold at the bottom. After a few attempts I did manage to get down to them but found it actually quite difficult to come back up carrying the heavy saucepans. I was rewarded with a bottle of wine and ringing ears for the next few hours!!

The next morning we headed off towards the island of Levanso, but after an hour of going upwind we changed our minds. We were sailing along nicely at 6 knots pointing at Sardinia, but Levanso was directly upwind, so we decided to keep going and head for Sardinia. 3 hours later the wind had died and we were motoring, but by then we were committed to the crossing.
