Norman G III
Sun 20 Nov 2011 20:32
good evening
i am writing this at 20.10 just before my 3 houir watch begins at 2100

tonight our position is

27 32 41 N 15 08 40 W

everyone is fine and dandy - well not exactly dandy

we set sail today with a F6 wind blowing form the north and a relatively confused sea of abot a 1 to 1.5 m swell

it was an amazing sight to see 220 boats all setting off towards the caribbean all at the same time and there was a lot of fireworks and blasting of horns and a spanish naval vessel with huge water cannons pointing into the air like a giant waerfall

we kept up the Norman G tradition by leaving the harbour last and arriving at the start line in second last position about 40 minutes after the first boat left--- well weve got 2700miles to catch them!

after only about an hour we were hungry so Jason said he would rustle up a sanwich

prosciutto and cheese was the order of the day and all went well until it came to eat them. First victim Golly. a little green around the gills and a sandwich was spare-- luckily skip came to the rescue and finished his own and gollys in double quick time.

all afternoon we watched the other boats and marvelled at the great experience we had ahead and laughed and talked about life in general

at 1800 we were hungry again and Jason volunteered to make dinner. a very nice pasta with tomato and pancetta was served . for Golly a small portion which went down ok.. for me and skip a big bowl and oh dear the second victim Jason felt a little queasy so could not eat his - luckily skip came to the rescue and ate jasons, Gollys and a second plateful of his own ,followed by an eccles cake which he had hidden in his cabin-- im not sure he understands this is meant to be a yacht race --I think he feels it an all inclusive cruise ship!

Now im writing this and then onto watch. Golly is then on from 0000 to 0300 then Jason from 0300 to 0600 then me again so were hopefully will settle into a routine

For all those who say i cant spell please remember there is no spell checker on this computer and using the mouse is almost impossible so going over the text again to correct words is a nono so this is my first draft in effect--- think about that tomorrow when youre typing your emails at work!!!

oh yes and also tomorrow go onto the FTSE website and buy shares in Johnson and Johnson pharmaceuticals the makers of the sea sickness tablets Stugeron.. the way those two are eating them theres bound to be a UK shortage and the share price will rocket-- you heard it first from me.

todays mention is to Sheila. From all of us all but especially from me thanks for all the hard work and effort you put into making this a great experience for us all. The food is amazing and we have provisions to stay out at sea for more than a year but I cant wait to see you a lot sooner. Thank you and love you.

im a little tired so more tomorrow after our first night at sea

sleep tight
