good evening
the time here ( thats somewhere in mid atlantic) is 20.30 and our position
is
16 58 89N 39 54 47W
and we are sailing along after our halfway party and everyone is a little
subdued
the day started well enough with an early breakfast of bacon and egg
sandwiches a cup of tea ( milk now officially off and reverting to uht) and
an autopsy of the night before. what a pig of a night
rain and squalls all night and a difficult sea with 3 differing wavesets
made life miserable for those wanting to sleep--a little akin to tryin g to
sleep inside a tumble dryer , and made especially difficult for us because
in this huge ocean another yacht( a german we think) wanted to get as close
to us as possible -- no yachts for 3 days and then we find a stalker
the wind blew 25-30kt all night necessitating 2 on watch at all times which
meant skip and i got 2 hours sleep each throughout the entire night-- not
good for my delicate natural mood balance
after breakfast skip went to sleep leaving jason golly and me to plan the
halfway party.
this is where the problems started. where exactly is halfway
i suggested a line drawn on the chart and when the front of the yacht
touches it all ok. jason couldnt care less, Golly had his own theory
now they say a yacht gets one foot smaller every day you live on it so after
10 days ours was becoming a small space.tiredness does not usually increse
my patience levels and so when golly started explaining his theory for
halfway based on his road trip to Turkey i cut him short. Normally fairly
even tempered he reared up and retorted
dont treat me like a child
you are a child i said go to your room
now his face was beetroot and before i had chance to say anything else he
gatehered up his clobber and stomped off.
now obviously he couldnt go anywhere outside on the boat because of the
weather so he stamped his feet and went where--- to his room
i laughed which resulted in golly slamming his door and skip being woken
now skips a big fellow with a kind heart and doesnt like arguments so tried
to mediate. i told him to f off and golly wouldnt open the door
jasons only comment
my kids av got more sense returning to his suntanning duties-- hes becoming
mahogony
an hour passed and i had a little nap so feeling a little( not a lot )
guilty left golly a peace offering outside his door-- a chocolate hob nob
gollys never one to let a biscuit go and could sense it through the locked
door. 10 mins later having truffled out the biscuit we were all sat together
again friends
we had our party including 2 bottles of the finest champagne and laughed a
lot and talked about the trip and what it meant as an experience--- a really
rememberable occasion
this evening as a continuation of our celebrations we have had a fantastic
curry from the hands of our chef hardeep atkinson- maybe thats why hes so
suntanned- and were ready for what will hopefully be a quiet night
we are now on the countdown to arrival at st lucia but i think that
although we all want to get to there as quickly and safely as possible now
we dont want the journey to end
maybe its just right------- its not the destination thats important but the
journey to get there
firstly tonight a big happy birthday from golly to david his brother and to
myrette
jason says a big hello to olivia and harvey and cant wait to see you (
harvey have you learnt your 8 times table yet?)
and from me hope you arrived home safely and all is ok sheila and alison
sleep tight
