Nimble Ape II

Good afternoon from the Apes.  We’ve had another mixed bag of weather over the past couple of days and we’re currently motoring, and have been for the past 3 hours, since quite a strong weather pattern drifted over us bringing heavy rain for an hour and left us with about 7kts of easterly wind which isn’t enough.  However, as we only have 588 miles left we are all quite buoyant despite having almost exhausted our reading material.

The food, although plentiful, is now dull and boring and it takes a skilled and imaginative chef to conjour up a variation on pasta...we don’t have one of those embarked, and the ‘one pot galley gourmet’ recipe book, although useful, pre-supposes a variety of foodstuff... we ate our last fresh fruit this morning.  With only 4 days until landfall I think we can put up with a bit of hardship, mind you, our first steak and rum punch will taste pretty good by then!

As you can see from our position we are about 1100 miles north of Paramaribo which is in Surinam and our closest point of land is  Barbuda, bearing 269 deg at 449 miles.  We are almost within touching distance of BVI and the sense of anticipation within Nimble Ape is mounting.  By the next blog we should be about 36 hours out if the trade winds behave themselves and blow as advertised.

We had another pod of dolphins with us yesterday and here’s a photo (not very clear) of one them coming up for air.

Yours Aye, Apes
