Nimble Ape II

Here we are again with our latest update.  Nimble Ape has 1132 miles to go to her destination, we still think (somewhat optimistically)we’ll be in the BVI a on the 15th or 16th .  The first thousand miles went by very quickly, the middle thousand not so and it seems to be taking ages to get to the ‘less than a thousand’ milestone.  The weather has been varied and we have had gusts of wind overnight to 30kts but now, we are barely moving in light airs.  Very frustrating.  And to make it worse it rained.  However, the sun is now shining and the Apes are working on deck (tanning and reading).

On Sunday, during the middle watch, we were visited by some nocturnal dolphins.   We heard them breathing before we saw them, and we were surrounded by them for quite some time.  The fishing has yielded 3 so far, and all the same species (Mahi Mahi) one we ate, the other two were returned to the deep. ( Fortunately for the duty chef as our expertise in this department is sadly limited).

We did a little navigation by sextant yesterday and took the sun’s altitude at local noon which gave us our latitude.  However, we off by a few miles and hope to refine our technique such that we agree with GPS to within a couple of miles.

Attached is a picture of all the Apes, Ian, Kevin, Chris, and Newman taken this morning.

Yours Aye, Apes
