Porto Misseno to Cape Palinuro 8-7-2007 to 9-7-2007

Destination: 40:01.639N 15:17.744E – Distance Covered: 55nm.

Dear Blog, just a short update, still not pictures I am afraid as still no camera.

I awoke in Porto Misseno to a strong swell and as the boat was rocking a lot I decided to make an early start and head South.

The swell in Porto Misseno had no relation to the sea conditions as it was a very calm day.  I had to motor for the first 2-3 hours as the very little wind that I had was on the nose.  Finally the wind changed and picked up just a little so I was able to sail for the next few hours.

I sailed across ‘Golfo di Salerno’ which is about 40 miles and then continued to Cape Palinuro.  Just behind the Cape was an anchorage which was very calm and sheltered by a large rock in the bay, I anchored amongst five other yachts.  The sun had disappeared just before I arrived, there was just enough light to find a good spot.

The anchorage turned out to be a wonderful place with great beaches and some caves.  I went exploring today in the dingy and was able to even take it into some of the caves, the rest of the time was spent on the beach and I even managed to get out the Italian phrase books and learn a few sentences ready for the next port J

I have decided to stay another relaxing night at Cape Palinuro and will head further south in the morning.
