From Alicante to Valencia 14th – 18th of August 2006

On 14th of August we finely managed to say good bye to Alicante. It was nice there but we were looking forward to being somewhere where there wouldn’t be so many people so we waved about lunchtime and set up our auto – helm to the south of Spanish coast. We decided to anchor at the next destination. On the way we saw a big holiday resort, where I wouldn’t like to stay, as it was full of block of flats.

Here are some pictures from that trip…

Just before our anchor spot we saw a lighthouse with caves. It was really amazing

We arrived to Cala Sardinera about 10 pm almost in dark. We were bit worried about the rocks around us, but finally we found a good place where to drop the anchor, unfortunately one boat decided to anchor quite close in front of us, so we didn’t sleep much that night.

When we got up we saw this beautiful scenery which was around us.

The water was so clear that we could see our anchor sitting in 5 meters of depth. We decided it’s time for snorkelling so we were about 2 hours exploring sea around our boat. Unfortunately that place was probably very popular as after lunchtime it was absolutely packed by other boats and all of them didn’t care that they are too close to us. We wanted to leave as soon as was possible to be somewhere else to anchor in a nice place again.

On the way we made a record with our boat as you can see that the boat already sailed 4.444,4 nm.

We wanted to stay another night at anchor, but problem was the weather as it was forecast to get much windier and quite bumpy, and in that kind of weather you couldn’t really sleep so finely we decided to carry on to Valencia. About 11 pm we arrived. We had problems to talk to the marina office via VHF, as it seemed that they don’t speak any English. Finally they found one who could tell us more details so we were happy that they have a space and that we can stay. We berthed the boat on one pontoon and in the morning we went for check in. The guy from marina was really surprised and not really happy about where we had stayed so we had to move.

In the afternoon we managed to get to the city. One guy gave us a lift as there was no bus station either taxi we could go with. The marina was about 6 or 7 km far from Valencia. We hopped off at the place where America’s cup is going to leave in 2007 so we were excited and we decided not to explore Valencia but only this part. About 10 pm we were hungry and wanted to eat somewhere on the promenade near beaches. But all of them stopped serving food at 10 pm (it’s almost the same as in England!!!) We finally found a tapas bar which was expensive but they had a plenty of food for us and were closing after midnight. On the way back we took a taxi.

Another morning we decided to visit Ocenario which is supposed to be one of the largest aquariums in Europe. When we arrived we found that there was a very long queue we couldn’t believe our eyes, we were waiting about 2 hours at minimum for two tickets and after that we were able to see some sea life. The most impressive were dolphins show and sharks.

We are about 163 nm from Barcelona so we hope that next update would be from there.

We wish you a good day!

P.S.: No matter whether is raining… Be happy… :o)
